Broad Spectrum and Cleanliness of Ozone Disinfection
Ozone disinfection has the characteristics of broad spectrum and cleanness, which can kill viruses, bacterial propagules, bacterial spores, fungi, mold spores and other pathogenic microorganisms. The synthesis raw material of ozone is air or oxygen, which will be rapidly decomposed into oxygen after synthesis. Besides, no harmful substances will remain after disinfection.
Ozone disinfection is very efficient. At the same time, the killing effect of ozone is several times that of chlorine. Compared with chlorine disinfection, ozone can achieve the same disinfection effect in a very short contact time.
In comparison, ozone is more suitable for water disinfection. The results show that water temperature has a very significant effect on the concentration of ozone in water. With the increase of water temperature, the concentration of ozone in water decreases rapidly, and the half-life of ozone shortens rapidly.
Ozone water spray sterilization is carried out with 15 mg/L ozone water for 15 min. However, the killing rates of Candida albicans and aspergillus niger spores by this method are lower than 40%, so it could not achieve the expected bactericidal effect.
This indicates that the ozone water spray sterilization method has poor germicidal efficacy and can not effectively kill the fungi attached to the carrier.
If carrier immersion quantitative sterilization is used and reasonable time and concentration are set, the required 100% killing rate can be achieved.
When the carrier is immersed in 15 mg/L ozone water for 10 min, Candida albicans on the carrier could be completely killed. When the carrier is immersed in 10 mg/L ozone water for 10 min or 15 mg/L ozone water for 5 min, the spores of aspergillus niger on the carrier could be killed 100%.
